How to actually finish the mobile games you start

May 7, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

My phone's graveyard of half-played games used to depress me. I'd get three hours into something promising and then drift to the next shiny thing. Over the past year I finally started finishing more, and it came down to habits, not willpower.

First, I stopped installing more than two or three games at once. Fewer options means less decision fatigue and more actual playing.

Second, I pick games that match my real sessions. If I mostly play in short bursts, a sprawling RPG will sit untouched, while something like Coin Strike or a short adventure gets finished.

Third, I let myself abandon games early and on purpose. If a game isn't clicking in the first hour, dropping it quickly frees up attention for the ones that will.

Finishing a game feels good in a way endless scrolling never does. A smaller, more intentional library made mobile gaming satisfying again.
