What separates a good mobile RPG skill tree from a tedious one
The best part of any RPG, for me, is the moment a build clicks. On mobile that moment is harder to reach because screens are small and sessions are short, so progression has to be legible and generous.
Legible means I can see where my next few upgrades lead without squinting through a wall of icons. Games like Emberfall Saga nail this by grouping skills into clear paths with short descriptions you actually read.
Generous means respecs shouldn't punish you. If experimenting costs a fortune, most players will just pick the safe meta build and never explore, which drains half the fun out of the genre.
My rule of thumb: if I'm excited to open the skill screen after a level-up, the progression is doing its job. If I'm dreading another confusing menu, something's off.
Try respeccing on purpose a few hours in. The games that make this painless are usually the ones designed by people who understand why we play RPGs in the first place.
